“Therapy is a highly personal and unique process. I strive to meet you where you are in your life with a genuine and non-judgmental approach. We will work together to collaboratively identify where you feel stuck, to explore your values and what brings your life meaning, and to gain a deeper understanding of yourself both individually and in relation to others. We will also seek to increase your sense of self, mindfulness, and self-compassion in the service of pursuing a life that brings you authenticity and purpose. My approach to therapy integrates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and other evidence-based therapies, with a foundation in psychodynamic and attachment theory tailored to fit each client’s needs.”
Dr. Heinemeyer’s primary clinical interests are in working with clients with complex trauma, PTSD, and personality, depressive, and anxiety disorders. She also works with individuals with Bipolar Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Functional Neurological Disorder. With couples, she primarily works from an Emotionally Focused Therapy framework which focuses on emotional awareness, disrupting unhelpful interpersonal patterns, and fostering a secure and loving bond between partners.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Heinemeyer is engaged in supervision, mentorship, and professional development for the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium at Palo Alto University and is the Mental Health Clinic Practicum Co-Director at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. She also collaborated on several research studies focused on suicide prevention, depression, anxiety, cortisol, neural correlates of emotion, and psychological well-being in adults at Stanford University School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
Dr. Heinemeyer received her doctorate from the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System where she received specialized training in both general outpatient and acute inpatient mental health, the treatment of posttraumatic stress, psychological assessment, and interdepartmental evaluation and consultation within the hospital. Dr. Heinemeyer completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Her training there focused on DBT, evidence-based treatments of trauma and sexual assault, mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, couples, and clinical supervision.
Dr. Heinemeyer welcomes all races, all ethnicities, all genders, all sexual orientations, all relationship structures, all religions, all countries of origin, and all abilities.
